Indie stalwart and two-time Academy Award nominee John Sayles (Lone Star) returns to the Mexican border with his new thriller. Bernice (Lisa Gay Hamilton) and Fontayne (Yolonda Ross) were so tight in high school they could “go for sisters,” but eventually their life paths diverge. Twenty years later, they meet again when Fontayne, a recovering addict fresh out of jail, finds that Bernice is her new parole officer. But when Bernice’s son Rodney goes missing on the Mexican border, she needs someone who can navigate Rodney’s shady world without involving the police… and she turns to Fontayne. The pair enlists the services of Freddy Suárez (Edward James Olmos), a disgraced ex-LAPD detective. As they plunge into the underbelly of Tijuana, they find themselves in a cat-and-mouse game with a ruthless gang of human traffickers. A contemporary story set among working-class people on both sides of the border, Go For Sisters features strong performances.
